DoorDash Tax Calculator for 2026

Dashers are independent contractors, so DoorDash doesn’t withhold any tax. You pay Social Security and Medicare yourself (self-employment tax) plus income tax on your profit.

Tax tips for Dashers

  • Your biggest deduction is usually mileage. Log every business mile from when you start dashing, not just the miles DoorDash shows on active orders.
  • Tips count as income. Starting with 2025 returns, qualifying tips may also be deductible from income tax (up to $25,000) through 2028. They are still subject to self-employment tax.
  • DoorDash sends tax forms through Stripe. Check your Stripe Express account in January.
  • Hot bags, phone costs for the share you use for dashing, and parking fees while on a delivery are also deductible.

Which tax form you’ll get

Form 1099-NEC if you were paid $2,000 or more (the threshold rose from $600 for payments made in 2026). You owe tax on all of it even if no form arrives.

How this is calculated

Net profit = earnings − mileage deduction − other expenses. Mileage uses 72.5¢ per mile for miles driven Jan 1 – Jun 30, 2026 and 76¢ per mile from Jul 1 – Dec 31, 2026.

Self-employment tax is 15.3% of 92.35% of profit. Income tax uses the 2026 brackets after the standard deduction, half of your SE tax, the 20% QBI deduction and, if you tick the box, the qualified tips deduction.

If you also have a W-2 job, the result shows only the extra tax from your DoorDash income.

Common questions

How much should a Dasher set aside for taxes?

Many Dashers land around 10–20% of gross earnings once mileage is deducted, because the mileage deduction removes a big share of taxable profit. Enter your numbers above for your own figure.

Do I pay taxes on DoorDash if I earned under $2,000?

Yes. The $2,000 figure only decides whether DoorDash sends a 1099-NEC. If your net profit from all self-employment is $400 or more, you owe self-employment tax, and all profit counts toward income tax.

Can I deduct gas and the mileage rate?

No, pick one. The standard mileage rate already covers gas, repairs, insurance and depreciation. The other option is tracking actual car expenses, which takes more records.

Are DoorDash tips tax-free now?

Not fully. Qualifying tips may be deductible from federal income tax for 2025–2028 (up to $25,000, reduced above $150,000 of income, or $300,000 for joint filers), but you still pay self-employment tax on them. Check the IRS list of qualifying occupations and your tax forms for reported tip amounts.
